About my work:
Having just moved to Nidd I’m enjoying painting around the local area.
The ‘Rock in the Woods’ are a series of paintings Started early in 2019 when a friend took me to some woodland with amazing rock formations within.
My life was then interrupted for most of the year by three deaths in my family so I temporarily ceased painting. I later painted in the woods and from photos.
With the rocks as the main form in each painting, I heightened the colours to reflect emotions and intensify the viewers experience. I often paint with a blue/green palette because they’re colours that I like. Here I’ve used turquoise, ultramarine and magenta.
In the summer of 2019 I painted the Knaresborough viaduct from a private balcony.
Still in a state of bereavement, the project was therapeutic and I felt privileged to paint from such a fantastic viewpoint. I painted four images from the same viewpoint and then one from Mother Shiptons side of the river.
My other main passion is portraiture, preferably from live sittings, but recently I’ve completed six portraits of NHS heroes from photos as part of the national initiative #portraitsfornhsheroes started by artist Tom Croft.
